I install a false ceiling in concrete

The false ceiling is ideal as part of a renovation or simply if you have had enough of your old ceiling and want to modernize a room, for example by providing additional lighting with spotlights. In the step-by-step below, discover the installation on rails, which is the simplest to implement, provided you have a minimum of equipment ... and the help of one or two people!

Step 1 - I check tools and materials

The installation of a false ceiling on rails does not require more than a day for a knowledgeable handyman, with good tools and materials.
On this subject, you must have a laser level, a particularly practical tool since it allows you to obtain the correct perimeter all around the room without having to take out rules and pencils. The spirit level is however still necessary to check the work. For the rest, you need edge angles, threaded rods that will be installed on a hanger, concrete anchors to hit, rails and of course Placo® plates. Do not forget to calculate beforehand the necessary quantity of plates. You also need a meter, a cutting pliers for the angles and a hacksaw for the rails.

Step 2 - I set up the perimeter

I start by drawing the desired height all around the room, writing in marks with a pencil, then I install the laser level. I put the edge angles in place all around the piece, cutting them if necessary to the right length.
I then fix them using hammer pegs and while checking the levels.

Step 3 - I install the lines

Essential, the lines allow to maintain the false ceiling and prevent it from widening over time. Composed in this case of a concrete anchor, a rod and clips which will be fixed on the rails, they are posed first in the four corners of the part then are spaced of 60 cm on the angles and 120 cm in the center. Do not hesitate to use a nylon cord to guide you!

Step 4 - I prepare the lighting

I don't forget to locate the locations of my future spotlights or light fixtures, bring the electricity to my false ceiling and drill the holes to the desired size in the plates. The spots, for example, have standard dimensions of 74 mm in diameter (in this case I use a hole saw).

Step 5 - I lay the rails

The metal rails simply come to rest on the angles and clip into the lines. The important thing is to follow their spacing well according to the width of the plates. I fit them into the lines, fix them with screws and I make the connections using fishplates. At the ends, I lay the last rails where the remaining width is less than that chosen.
I check the lengths before cutting the metal rails.
I finally make sure of the flatness using a level or a mason's rule.

Step 6 - I fix the plates

I place the plates on the rails and fix them with special Placo® screws.
I start with whole plates and cut the last ones with the cutter according to the width and the remaining length.
It only remains for me to admire my work!
I can leave my false ceiling as it is or add seals and paint to it.
