Choosing one bulb over another to guarantee good results next spring is often a fluke. However, you can spread some pitfalls in choosing well your bulbs and planting them properly.

Prefer bulbs of a good size

Avoid choosing sickly bulbs, prefer those of a good size.

Choose full bulbs

Never take "hollow" bulbs. Press down lightly to make sure they are full.

Avoid stained bulbs

Take care of their sanitary state. Eliminate automatically those having on their surface suspicious traces, soft spots or necrosis.

Plant your bulbs correctly

- Never plant your bulbs upside down. To develop the bulb must be able to take root normally. The "pointed" part must necessarily be at the top. - If the appearance of the bulb leaves you doubtful, plant it lying down. This is sometimes the case with begonia, the central "eye" of which must be on top. - Do not plant too deep or too much on the surface. Always use a bulb planter which will guarantee you a perfectly adapted hole. 10 to 20 cm deep are sufficient depending on the size of the bulb. Count on average three times the bulb height to calculate its planting depth. - Never use a dibbler. The dibbler leaves a void under the bulb which can dry out or rot.

Know how to differentiate them ...

Attention, do not confuse bulbs and tubers. Crocuses, tulips, daffodils are bulbs, dahlias tubers which must be planted with a spade. Find all the mistakes to avoid in your garden.
